Foamstars, the 4v4 suds-filled party shooter from Square Enix, will make the move to a free-to-play model on October 3 at 6PM PT. This F2P model will be for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
Just as important here is the fact that this move to F2P means that a PlayStation Plus subscription is no longer required to play the game online. Removing two barriers to entry for Foamstars sounds like a pretty good thing to me.
Those that picked up Foamstars before this move to free-to-play will get a free "Legacy Gift." This package includes 12 exclusive color-variant Bubble Beastie skins, one exclusive Slideboard design, and the "Legacy" title.
In the month ahead of the F2P move, Foamstars will be going through its seventh season, Golden Beats. This season adds a new Foamstar, Bublo, plus two new seasonal events including Ranked Party and Extreme Party.

In GOLDEN BEATS, players can look forward to the debut of new Foamstar, Bublo, and two new seasonal events including RANKED PARTY where players compete to climb the ladder of one of the seven ranked modes with teams or solo and EXTREME PARTY which features multiple events, all with special rules!
With a GOLDEN BEATS Season Pass, players will receive Bublo, as well as the Ramzey foam gun skin, and the Coiff Guy character skin for free. Players can also obtain XP by completing battles, missions, and Weekly Challenges to advance through the season tiers and earn various rewards such as additional skins and items. Players who purchase a Premium Season Pass, which is available for $5.99, will unlock even more rewards as all rewards up to each player’s current tier will be unlocked immediately.
