Game Informer debuted in 1991 as an in-house newsletter published by FuncoLand. After acquiring FuncoLand in 2000, GameStop took up the mantle and continued to publish Game Informer on a near monthly basis.
Despite some ups and downs, Game Informer remained one of the most consistently released publications for 33 years. It was one of the last few remaining gaming focused publications, having outlasted other magazines by several years.
Today, Game Informer just announced that after 33 years of operation and 367 issues published, they are shutting down. The publication announced the news through Twitter on August 2, 2024.
