This figure comes from Amazon.
A still showing one of the main characters from Amazon Prime's Fallout TV show.

The Fallout TV show has been quite the success for Amazon Prime. Amazon revealed to Variety that 65 million people have tuned in to watch the show within the first two weeks of availability. This makes Fallout the second most watched Amazon Prime title ever, placing it just behind 2022's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Though it's second overall for Amazon, Fallout is the top when it comes to being the most watched with viewers aged 18-34. The show seems to be a hit globally, with 60% of the audience coming from outside the United States, including the UK, France, and Brazil especially.

The big catch with the 65 million figure that Amazon is touting is the fact that they do not disclose how they arrived at that figure. As Variety points out, it is unknown if a view is counted if they have completed an episode, watched multiple episodes, completed the entire season, or clicked on an episode by mistake and saw half a second of an episode.

Even if those numbers from Amazon are fudged a bit, it's hard to deny that the franchise isn't extremely popular right now. Critics have Fallout sitting at a 93% average score for the first season.

Not only is the show reviewing well, but it has sparked a huge interest in the games again. On Steam alone, players have been flocking back to the games in droves. Fallout 4 alone went from an average peak player count of about 24,000 concurrent up to over 187,000 in the past few days. A similar jump was seen by Fallout: New Vegas, which saw a jump from about 5,000 peak concurrent up to over 43,600 concurrent. Fallout 3 also saw a new all-time peak hit a little over a week ago with 11,471 hopping into the game.

The real surprise here is the surge in popularity for Fallout 76. The MMO set in the Fallout universe held fairly steady at around 12,000 peak concurrent players in the days leading up to the Fallout TV show's premiere. After the show came out, Fallout 76 saw more players than it ever has, even at launch. Fallout 76 hit an all-time peak concurrent player count just 9 days ago (April 21, 2024) with 73,368 people playing at once. In the past 24 hours, it's still holding strong with over 51,000 playing concurrently. Even at the time of this post going live (about 3PM on a Tuesday), there are nearly 49,000 people in Fallout 76.

Again, these are just the figures for those playing the Fallout games on Steam. There is no saying just how many people are playing these games across the many platforms the series is available on.
