  • Cut Post-Credits Modern Warfare 3 Scene Discovered After 13 Years

It was a high Price to pay.
A photo of the members involved in Operation Kingfish in the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare trilogy of games.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 was released in 2023, but before that, it was also released in 2011. That original release of Modern Warfare 3 served as the conclusion for Infinity Ward's Modern Warfare trilogy before the whole thing was rebooted a decade later.

In the finale of the original Modern Warfare 3, we play as Captain Price as he takes out the terrorist Vladimir Makarov. There was a big helicopter crash and a dramatic scene where Price wraps a cord around Makarov's neck and hangs him. After that, the credits rolled and that was that. The fate of Captain Price was up in the air, with many fans going so far as to have lengthy online debates about Price's ultimate fate.

After 13 years, that fate seems to be answered. A Call of Duty modder, yoyo1love, claims to have found a cut post-credits scene within the game's original files. The scene was restored and uploaded to YouTube just a few days ago via another user, Vlad Loktionov. The scene is still shown through the eyes of Price. In front of Price we see the swinging body of Makarov and in the distance is a mysterious figure. It's not clear who that person in the distance is or why they're there.

As the stranger turns and walks away, Price's lit cigar falls to the ground. Price slumps over, seemingly lifeless, as the view fades to black. After a moment an image of an old photograph appears on screen showing members that were involved in Operation Kingfish: John "Soap" MacTavish, John Price, Sandman, and Ghost. Three of the people in the photograph (Soap, Sandman, and Ghost) were already killed in action previously over the course of the Modern Warfare games. Given the added context of this unearthed post-credits scene, it seems reasonable to assume that Price also died at the end of Modern Warfare 3.

The mysterious stranger is allegedly labeled as "shadowman" or "ominous stranger" in the game's files. Some fans speculate that the stranger is actually Death, which would be another clear indication that Price dies at the end.

All of this assumes that the video is actually legitimate. It could be that it was actually hidden all this time or it could be the work of some modders trying to pull a fast one on the world. We'll leave that debate up to those who have far too much time on their hands.
