The development studio for Forspoken, Luminous Productions, will be absorbed back into Square Enix. The members of the studio will fill positions within Square Enix leaving Forspoken as their first, and only, release.

The reveal came via Twitter where Luminous Productions says that the change will begin this May. The statement from Luminous says that their "talented team will join Square Enix to deliver new, innovative gaming experiences to players across the globe."

Until this move happens in May, Luminous says that they will "remain entirely focused on Forspoken." The studio says that they are still working on a patch that they hope will "address overall game performance" along with some DLC called "In Tanta We Trust." This DLC is on track to be released this summer.

A separate statement from Square Enix says that this "merger is part of the company's efforts to further bolster the competitive prowess of the group's development studios." Square Enix talks up Luminous' expertise with developing AAA experiences with their "technical expertise" in game engine development.

Prior to developing Forspoken, members of Luminous Productions worked at Square Enix on Final Fantasy XV. They were to create new games in the Luminous Engine, which was used only in Final Fantasy XV and Forspoken along with two technical demonstrations.

With Final Fantasy XVI being developed on Unreal Engine 4, it's very possible that Luminous Engine's days are also numbered.
