A Plague Tale Requiem key art

A Plague Tale: Requiem is now available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC from Asobo Studio. Those of you on the Nintendo Switch can also join in on the rat jam with a cloud version should you so desire. Additionally, the game is also a day one release on Game Pass for console, PC, and the cloud.

A Plague Tale: Requiem picks up with Amicia and Hugo de Rune almost right after the events of A Plague Tale: Innocence. You will once again embark on a big adventure in this plague ridden medieval world. A launch trailer for the game should give you a little overview of what the game is about. For those that are wondering, you probably should have played through the first game before this in order to have a better understanding of what is going on at the start of this game.

If you do plan on playing on PC, you will absolutely need to have a very beefy GPU in order to achieve framerates at or above 60FPS. On my system (Ryzen 9 5900X paired with a GTX 1080 Ti), I managed to find a blend of settings ranging from low to mostly medium that let me play at 1440p with a 75% resolution scale. With these drastically scaled back settings, I can maintain a framerate of about 48FPS with my GPU being utilized at 90% or above at almost all times.

It is honestly one of the most GPU demanding titles I've seen in a while. It probably stands to reason then that A Plague Tale: Requiem is one of the first titles confirmed to implement DLSS 3 support on Nvidia's 40-series of GPUS. Unfortunately, the game lacks any measure of FSR implementation at present. There is no word if FSR will be implemented in the future.

The heartrending story of Amicia and Hugo continues: embark on their next journey and venture to the south of 14th century France and beyond, setting sail for a mysterious island in the Mediterranean Sea. Brave a terrible fate, looking for the cure to heal Hugo’s illness, and discover the cost of saving those you love in a desperate struggle for survival within a dark, plague-ridden medieval world twisted by otherworldly forces.

This new chapter stays true to the series’ defining sense of history and strong narrative direction, with expanded gameplay possibilities granting extra freedom to players within a more open environment. Choose to strike from the shadows or unleash hell, turning to Amicia’s new resources—including alchemy to manipulate fire and the long-distance power of the crossbow, but also her cunning use of terrain and ability to wrestle out of an enemy’s grasp.
