A leaker wants to get this out to the public.

For better or worse, Duke Nukem Forever sure is a video game. At one point, however, it was an almost completely different game. A version of Duke Nukem Forever that was shown at E3 2001 ended up being nothing like the final release that Gearbox put out in 2011. If you need some sort of a reminder of 2011's release, I did write a review for Duke Nukem Forever (the images are long gone). At the time, I found it to be rather mediocre as did most other reviewers.

If you are still pining for that 2001 build of Duke Nukem Forever, you may not actually have very long to wait. A leaker going by the name "x0r" recently uploaded various screenshots and gameplay footage of the 2001 build of Duke Nukem Forever to 4chan. Since that initial leak, Duke Nukem creator George Broussard took to Twitter to confirm that the content that was leaked is indeed real.

This content first seen on 4chan made its way to Duke4.net. According to what has been shared by Duke4.net and on 4chan, there is a large chunk of the game that is playable. They say that almost every chapter exists in the game in some form, though a lot of the content is clearly unfinished with blocked out map chunks and no enemy spawns.

x0r says that they will be releasing this content along with the editor and full source code. They plan to do this in June.

Almost every chapter is present in some form. A huge chunk is playable, a huge chunk is block-outs with no enemies. All of the E3 content is there.
Not just the editor, we will be releasing the full source code too.
All weapons are functional with the exception of the chainsaw and the freezer.
Do you have any date on when you are gonna leak it then? June.
The editor works. We also have the engine and UnrealScript source code and have written instructions for compiling it.
Two builds, but only the content for one.
It is Unreal Engine 1, like the final game.
There is no complete game. It was never finished.
The E3 2001 iteration but not the E3 2001 build.
The shrink ray is in the game, it’s the first weapon in slot 4.
The theme is just the Megadeth version. It starts playing as soon as you boot the game.
Bombshell is not visually present in the game at this point, there is a log file showing that her model was deleted.
The strippers can be seen and interacted with when you first enter the club. By the point in the game that was recorded, most of them are dead.
Since that initial 4chan leak, some additional footage showed up on YouTube. The videos on YouTube include a section where Duke is driving a motorcycle through a tunnel. Another shows off some of the weapons in the game. Those videos, along with the footage shared on 4chan, plus some of the images shared prior can be found below.
