At some point during today's Facebook Connect, android and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas will be coming to the Oculus Quest 2.

During the announcement, there was no footage of the port shown off. We did not even see a screenshot. We also do not know if this title will be exclusive to the Oculus Quest 2, like the recently released Resident Evil 4 VR, or if it will make its way to other VR platforms on PC or even PlayStation.

I already have a big hatred towards platform exclusive releases, but VR exclusives are an even more worrying issue. VR is already super niche as it is. The last thing the medium needs are platform exclusive releases that limit the reach and audience even further.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas places you in the (now) virtual shoes of CJ, a man who returns to his old stomping grounds to try to save his neighborhood and family. San Andreas is an open-world game that will have you exploring the areas of Los Santos, San Fierro, Las Venturas, and surrounding wilderness locations.

San Andreas has always been a third-person title, much like most of the Grand Theft Auto titles. The only exception to this was Grand Theft Auto 5, which had an optional first-person view added after the game's initial release. It will be interesting to see if a first-person view was added to this game for the purpose of VR. At present, a first-person option was not announced for the recently confirmed multi-platform release of Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition.
