As a celebration of 25 years since the original release of the FPS known as Quake, comes a new and enhanced edition. It's still just called Quake (or Quake Remastered or Quake Enhanced depending on where you look) but it's been enhanced a bit for modern consoles and the PC. It is also available right now for the PC, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Game Pass, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. The PS5 and Series X|S releases are just through backwards compatibility but native versions running at 4K and 120FPS will be available soon as a free upgrade.

So what exactly is so enhanced about this release? Well, for one thing the game now supports resolutions of up to 4K. Widescreen resolution support has also been added to the game. Models are now "enhanced." There is now dynamic and color lighting, anti-aliasing, and depth of field.

Quake Enhanced also includes online, cross-play, local multiplayer, and co-op. Up to four players can go through the base campaign and the expansions either online or through local split-screen play. There will be PvP competitive modes that support up to 8-players online or 4-players locally.

Online play includes support for cross-play between all platforms. There are also dedicated server support for online matchmaking and peer-to-peer support for custom matches.

Today's release also includes both original expansions: The Scourge of Armagon and Dissolution of Eternity. There are also two new expansions included today from MachineGames: Dimension of the Past and Dimension of the Machine.

This release is available for free to everyone who already owns the original game on Steam and through Bethesda.net.
