Just one day ago, Microsoft revealed their plans to increase the prices of Xbox Live Gold by as much as double their old prices in some cases. Xbox Live Gold for one month was going up by $1, three months were going up by $5, and six months would cost a whopping $60 (USD). Remember that you used to be able to get a full year of Xbox Live Gold for that price.

Well, fans were rightly upset. Very upset. And as a result, they made sure to let Microsoft know that they were upset.

In turn, Microsoft listened to the complaints and actually responded! As of late last night, Microsoft backtracked on their plans to increase the prices of Xbox Live Gold.

If you are an Xbox Live Gold member already, you stay at your current price for renewal. New and existing members can continue to enjoy Xbox Live Gold for the same prices they pay today. In the US, $9.99 for 1-month, $24.99 for 3-months, $39.99 for 6-months and $59.99 for retail 12-months.
But wait, it does get even better!

Microsoft will join all other consoles out there when it comes to free-to-play titles. You will no longer need an Xbox Live Gold membership in order to play F2P games on the Xbox family of consoles. They will be making this change over the next few months.

For those that were unaware, you do not need to have a paid subscription to play F2P titles online on PlayStation, PC, or Switch. You did need one to play them on Xbox though, which is just beyond all reasoning. This seems to be something that a lot of people out there were just completely unaware of.
