Tripwire Interactive released a game that turns a genre on its head and then subsequently thrashes it around a bit in its jaws. This new "shARkPG" (ARPG) is published by Deep Silver and places you in the fins of a deadly and ever-evolving shark. Maneater is out today on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via the Epic Games Store (affiliate link). As this game is an open-world single player game, it's priced accordingly at just $39.99 (USD).
As a shark, you will start small but eventually build yourself up to becoming an apex predator. In order to do this, you take on other wildlife, you take on humans, and you complete goals in order to level up and unlock new abilities. Evolution is carried out at an accelerated rate. You can even outfit your bull shark with various "upgrades" that impact your skillset and abilities. For instance, you can maybe upgrade to fins that gives you a poison cloud effect. Maybe you'll use the life leeching teeth upgrade. It's an ARPG, you probably know what to expect here.
Also, the game is narrated by Chris Parnell. You may recall him from his work on Saturday Night Live, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, or as the voice of Cyril from Archer, and Jerry from Rick and Morty.
Maneater will be coming to Steam and other PC storefronts after a period of one year exclusivity on the Epic Games Store.
