Sonic Movie Director Says They'll Make Sonic Look Less Weird
Jeff Fowler, the director on the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie says that they have heard the fan feedback.
Yesterday, the first trailer for the Sonic the Hedgehog movie was released and uh, Sonic looked odd, to put it nicely. For God's sake, he had human teeth! Why?!
Naturally, the reaction online to Sonic's design ranged everywhere from laughter, to horror, to anger, to some suggestions on how to make him look better, and to an absolutely crapload of amazing meme images. Oh those glorious meme images. Also, I have no idea where the image at the top came from. I just saw it being circulated around social media and I apologize if you're the creator.
Fowler took to Twitter to let fans know that they are "committed to making this character the BEST he can be." This means they're going to be making some changes.
There is no way to tell just what these changes will be just yet. There is also no saying just how they'll manage to change his design in such a short span of time when the movie is slated to be released this November. Perhaps they'll take some inspiration from this decent redesign that Edward Pun put together after the trailer was revealed.

Also my guess for this "fix" involves creating a rig/skeleton that can work with any model they want. So they remake the model, assign it to the same rig, and don't bother changing a single animation. Changing the eyes will be torture though if it needs to happen. I can't figure out how a universal rig would work with merged eyes vs. 2 eyes.
