Darkest Dungeon 2

Darkest Dungeon 2 was officially announced today. The reveal came not from a press release or just a teaser trailer, but rather in an exclusive interview between PC Gamer and developer Red Hook Studios. The original game, a turn-based roguelike that picked up quite the fanbase, was originally released back in 2016.

Despite this unique reveal avenue, Red Hook didn't say too much about the new game. Some of the details pulled from the interview can be found below.
  • The combat system that fans largely enjoyed is making a return. However, there will be some additional mechanics and a few changes in terms of presentation.
  • Six familiar character classes are shown in the trailer: Grave Robber, Leper, Man-at-Arms, Plague Doctor, Highwayman, and Hellion
  • Darkest Dungeon 2 is more about "enduring a grueling journey" and less about "cleaning up your backyard."
  • You will get a look at the supernatural apocalypse in parts of the world beyond the estate.
  • While Darkest Dungeon had just five people working on it, the sequel already has 14 people with another six coming in the next year and a half.
  • Due to the number of differences in structure between the two games, Darkest Dungeon 2 is still "very appropriate for an Early Access type approach."
Speaking of the Early Access release, that date is not yet known. However, if you still haven't played the original, you can do so right now for 75% off for a limited time. You can also sign up for the Red Hook mailing list to stay up to date on the latest in Darkest Dungeon 2 development.
