• Keep the Dream Alive - Del Toro and Kojima Still Plan to Work on New Project

In an interview with IGN, Guillermo del Toro said that he "loves working with Kojima" and the two are working on doing something together, even if that something isn't Silent Hills.
"I love working with Kojima-san. We are still in touch. We are still friends and working into doing something together, but that’s not going to be [Silent Hills]."

And what of Del Toro's thoughts on the now canned, buried, and spit on Silent Hills that he and Kojima were working on?
"We were in the planning stages, and it’s a shame it’s not going to happen," del Toro said. "We were talking about really pushing the boundaries of the new consoles, and making the game really mess with your head. One of the great moments in Metal Gear [Solid] was Psycho Mantis. The idea that a game can actually interact with you, and stuff like that."

My heart is breaking all over again. Thankfully, it seems as though there is a future for the two and with any luck, we'll actually get to see what Kojima and Del Toro can cook up together this time.

I don't know if publishers would be looking for Kojima, the games he has made are huge, risky and expensive, these days it's more about profit than creativity.
Also, Del Toro says they are "working into doing something together", if Kojima was picked up i don't know if he'd have the freedom to do that, so they'd have to set up the studio themselves.

You don't think publishers will be pushing to pick up Kojima, a near 30 year veteran of the industry that made some of the most successful and popular franchises in the world (Metal Gear, Zone of the Enders, Policenauts, etc.)? I'm not so sure about that.

I know Kojima as a designer, a writer and not as a manager of a studio, he might be very good at that too but from the outside he's been a part of 1 or 2 teams for the last 28/29 years. It might be more than that and he might have had a very important part in forming and commanding even more teams, especially as the vice president of Konami, those skills would be valuable in starting a new team but if he is just a very talented designer, then publisher suits would need convincing that his monetary risk would be worth taking, as opposed to a much cheaper unknown designer.

Side note, we've been back and forth on other video game topics and i just want you to know i enjoy these well mannered debates we have , and i debate as a passionate spectator of the industry not as someone looking for an argument, i hope that comes across. I can always be wrong that's why we debate, i hope to raise questions as much as find answers.

You don't know about Kojima Productions? It is was its own studio serving as a subsidiary to Konami. For all intents and purposes, Kojima has managed his own studio now for about 10 years. He's not only made games with this studio, but he has also made an entire game engine (FOX Engine) while with them.

It's because of this that I'm sure some publisher out there would have no problems picking Kojima and his team up. If that happened, it would almost be an identical situation to what he had going on with Konami. He'd have his studio, whatever it may end up being called, and probably acting as a subsidiary to the publisher above them. If not that, then it's still entirely possible that a major development studio picks him up and gives him his own team. Kind of the same idea as if he had his own studio, but with the added benefit of having more resources by way of other developers and teams at the development studio and the resources of the publisher for said studio.

I don't know who actually owns the rights to the name "Kojima Productions" but if it is indeed Kojima that owns the rights to that particular name, I'm sure we'll see it again in the future... just not with Konami. I'm sure MS is gunning for him hard and they have the money to throw at him. I also see Sony going after him very hard given their solid (har har) relationship over these many, many years now. Who knows though, maybe he'll end up at EA and doing something with a new studio there or even, God forbid, Activision.

Yes i know Kojima Productions, it has his name on it but it's possible the hiring and management was handled by other staff while Kojima prefered to focus on the design of the game. Kojima doesn't strike me as the John Carmack type, his involvement with the FOX engine could have just been a direction stemmed from his game design, open world streaming, vehicles etc...
Bringing up that he was vice president of Konami since 2011, i assume that's a role that takes him away from personally running a studio, there must have been others running it in his place for the last 4 years.

A lot of my skepticism i'm sure comes from the fact that it's a japanese organisation and is thus much more secretive about its staff and their roles, we know what Carmack does so his current technical work with VR makes sense, the Houser brothers do an incredible job managing Rockstar and it's multiple studios, i see Kojima's talents in his writing which is impressive enough on its own, so i'm very intrigued in the process he'll go through if he goes straight back into heading a new team.
