With just 30 minutes remaining on Dimension Drive's Kickstarter campaign, spirits were high at 2Awesome Studio following a €7,000 pledge that put them over their €30,000 goal.
Kickstarter usually has safeguards in place that prevents creators from not making their goal if people decide to pull out with less than 24 hours remaining on the campaign. So, what happened here? Kickstarter themselves pulled the €7,000 pledge claiming that it was made with a stolen credit card. That €7,000 initially pushed the Kickstarter campaign beyond the €30,000 goal set by the 2Awesome team.
Upon its removal with 30 minutes remaining, they were below the goal threshold and had little to no chance of recuperating that loss in time. Their campaign ended a short time ago this evening at about €6,600 short of their funding goal. 2Awesome Studio says that they do not know what to do and that they are "mentally devastated" following the move by Kickstarter, and to a lesser degree the person using the stolen credit card, that essentially screwed over their campaign.
There are some murmurings of perhaps seeing if Kickstarter could allow for an extension on the campaign but nothing concrete has been announced just yet.

Weren't there already similar free to play flash, or java titles like 10 years ago that you could play on your browser...
Am I the one who is not being modest here?
Have you ever made a game? I'm going to guess not therefore how can you comment on what is and isn't required?
If we start to argue the point of there were and are similar games that were and are free then why do we bother paying companies to make any games at all?
They had Battlefield free to play, why should I pay for Battlefield Hardline? Same premise.
People have just backed over 1 million pounds for a banjo successor, over 1 million pounds... and that's to a company that probably already has 1 million sat in the bank anyway, and you're having a stab at 30k for a bunch of people that most likely have moths coming out of their wallets/purses.
For independent people to put time into making what is hoped to be a truly successful game, people need to quit their jobs, but they still have mortgages to pay for, how do you propose they do that without getting a large sum of money behind them to 'Kickstart' their product?
30k is p!ssing in the wind when it comes to funding a project like a game.
Unless you're extremely lucky to have a hit flash or android game that was just whipped together effortlessly, or lucky enough to have the time and money to build a full game, you need things like kickstarter to give you a chance. Its the whole point of kickstarter. If you don't like the platform of this game, then you don't back it, that's how it works.
These guys at Dimention Drive should have taken it slowly. Why didn't they ask for 20000€, and cut down on people? Did they really need 2 music creators and 4 guys taking care of art? Why didn't they add something like Kickstarter strech goals with the intention of improving sound and art design if they would get more money than then needed?
But once again, those are just my 2 cents on it.
