Microsoft has decided to halt production on their Kinect devices for Windows. Instead, they are opting to release a $50 adapter that will allow you to make use of an Xbox One Kinect on your Windows PCs and tablets.
In a new entry on the Kinect for Windows blog, Microsoft's Michael Fry notes that they would rather have the company focus on a single sensor design. This new move means that if you want to use a Kinect on your PC, you will have to pay $50 for a new adapter and $150 for the Kinect itself.
Microsoft also notes that since the Kinect and Kinect for Windows are "functionally identical," their Windows SDK 2.0 will work exactly the same with either device.
