Oh, is everything an XBOX again?

XBOX's new CEO Asha Sharma says the next XBOX, still dubbed Project Helix, will be more than one device. Sharma says that Microsoft has been working on a "great family of devices."

This super huge news was teased by Sharma during an interview with the BBC at gamescom 2026. This is really just about everything Sharma had to say about Project Helix and XBOX's new hardware. The following statement was made after the BBC asked if Project Helix would include a disc drive.

We're not sharing more on Helix, I know you had to ask it. But look, we've been hard at work on a great next generation and a great family of devices for Helix, and we'll share more soon.
Sharma's statement could suggest any number of possibilities. Project Helix could end up being another Series X and Series S situation. That is, perhaps Microsoft will release a more powerful console à la the Series X, while also releasing a less powerful one, a "Project Helix Series S," so to speak.

It's also a real possibility that Microsoft is preparing another handheld companion device. There have even been some rumors that Microsoft could go the Steam Machine route, allowing third-party companies to make their own Project Helix based on reference specifications.

A final name and official reveal for Project Helix has not yet happened. We may see some news during the 25th anniversary of XBOX in November, or perhaps during The Game Awards in December.
