  • Rory McIlroy Replaces Tiger Woods as the Face of PGA Tour

Out with the old and in with the new as Rory McIlroy was named as the new headliner for the latest golf game from EA Sports. That's right, get ready for EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA Tour. The game is slated for a June release and "represents a new generation of players for a new generation of consoles."

“I’m very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR,” said McIlroy. “This is a great honor, and something I couldn’t even dream of growing up playing the sport. I really hope people enjoy the game and I’m very glad I can be a part of it.”

EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR is the first EA SPORTS title to be built using the Frostbite engine. This new toolset allows the development team to create beautiful new environments, featuring the most detailed courses in franchise history. Frostbite also renders the entire course at once, eliminating load times between holes and allowing users to play their shot from almost any location. It’s truly Golf Without Limits.

The game is apparently only coming out on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 this June.

Hmm. I never saw them take of Madden from Madden NFL. Maybe they should change that franchise to "Collinsworth NFL '16" for next year..

I agree with cikame though, that it does not have the same ring to it.

The hell with Cris Collinsworth. That guy is seriously one of the worst sports commentators I've ever had the misfortune to have to hear broadcast a game in real life or in a video game.

But the thing with Madden is that he's a legend. He 30 years of being a broadcaster. This was after a very successful coaching career and brief stint as a player (prior to injury). It's not like he had multiple affairs. It's also not as though his career took a sudden and drastic downward spiral that he never recovered from.

LOL! I am not disagreeing with you on Collinsworth, I just wasn't expecting them to change the name.

Do you think it will be a year to year basis as to what the name of the game will be or just after like in 10-15 years change out to the new golf superstar? I would think so based on this recent change. One thing I do not see is the year, so maybe it will be a new golfer each year from here on out, like how madden games have a new player each year?

Either way I just think it is not a good idea to name a game off of a current sport athlete if you intend on keeping the series alive. I would think it would be more appropriate just to call it "PGA TOUR '16" and show the current superstar golfer, but what do I know, I don't make and sell franchise games.

I'm guessing they'll keep McIlroy around so long as he stays relevant, same as they did with Woods. If he starts to have a multi-year streak where he sucks, I'm sure they'll dump him.

Maybe John Daly will finally get his time to shine.

    More bogeys than birdies.
Rory McIlroy PGA Tour for the PlayStation 4 takes about one step forward and two steps back when compared to previous entries in the franchise. It's a game that looks and plays well but it's also a game that feels light on content. This entire package is then tied together with one of the most horrendous menu interfaces in recent memory. To put is simply: The game feels unfinished.
