  • Sega Accuses Gearbox's Randy Pitchford of "Doing Whatever the F--k He Likes"

The battle between Sega, Gearbox, and the gaming world continues to heat up as new documents revealed today that Sega didn't think too highly of Gearbox's Randy Pitchford. From documents dating back to October 2012, a Sega PR representative said that the "persistent panel leaking" of various Aliens: Colonial Marines details was due to "Randy doing whatever the fuck he likes."

Many of these documents allegedly show how Sega was getting more and more upset with what Gearbox was doing and how they were marketing the game without approval from Sega on the information or assets that were released.
One e-mail, titled "Gearbox is announcing things," detailed a number of game facts and video preview footage revealed in June 2011 that hadn't been approved by Sega. In another, a Sega PR representative called out Pitchford for "talk[ing] a LOT beyond what was in there" at an event. And in yet another e-mail, Pitchford was quoted as saying "A:CM will curbstomp Dead Space."

Yeah, about that Dead Space comment. Whoops?

Gearbox continues to try distancing itself from this class-action lawsuit filed against them and Sega when they filed to remove any personal financial obligation in this lawsuit. Sega recently filed its own motion that insists Gearbox is just as responsible for what happened as they are. Sega was about ready to agree to a $1.25 million settlement before pushing forward to bring Gearbox back into the hot seat with them. It probably doesn't help Gearbox's case when another email actually says that the early E3 demos looked better than the final release.
"The E3 demo is indeed the bar that we should use to determine where the entire game will be," Sega staffer Matthew Powers wrote in July 2011. "That is Gearbox’s plan and what they believe in."

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford Accused of Contempt in New Court Filing
      by Shawn Zipay
"All (the Internet) care about is if my next video game is good or not."

On Tuesday, former Gearbox lawyer, Wade Callender, filed a motion in Dallas County district court for contempt and has requested sanctions against Gearbox. The filing allegs "discovery abuse" and a failure to produce various court-ordered documents. This is the latest is a very long back-and-forth legal battle between Callender and Gearbox that started back in late 2018.

Former Gearbox Lawyer Claims CEO Randy Pitchford Took Secret $12 Million Bonus in Lawsuit Gearbox Claims is 'Absurd'
      by Shawn Zipay

Buckle up, everyone, because this is going to be a real doozy of a news post.

There are two lawsuits recently filed between Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford and the former general counsel for Gearbox. They're both suing each other, both claiming the other were in violation of their legal responsibilities to the company. The lawsuit against Pitchford from the former Gearbox lawyer Wade Callender says that Pitchford received a secret $12 million bonus from Take-Two Interactive.

Callender's lawsuit, filed December 21, 2018, also says that Pitchford is in violation of some contracts that involve Gearbox and a "separate real estate company" that both of them owned. Gearbox says that these accusations are "absurd" in a brief statement released today by a Gearbox spokesperson. ...

David Eddings Details Abuse from Randy Pitchford
      by Shawn Zipay
Accusations include a wet-willy and aggressive shoving.

One week ago, the dispute between Gearbox's Randy Pitchford and former Gearbox employee David Eddings went public in a hurry. It seemed as though this was largely over a pay dispute between the two parties but, as with most things involving Randy Pitchford, there's a bit more to it than that.

Eddings has claimed, on more than one occasion now, that Randy Pitchford physically assaulted him. These allegations really...
