These price increases went into affect yesterday, March 15. Sony has confirmed to the Toronto Sun that these price increases are very much real.
In a statement, Sony said the price increases in Canada are “to respond to changes in the market environment,” although the declining value of the Canadian dollar against the American greenback wasn’t specifically cited as a reason.
As noted by the Toronto Sun, this follows a similar move that saw the prices of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One games go from $59.99 to $64.99, with future titles hitting $69.99. Ouch!
Even at these prices, the system continues to sell out in North America. Microsoft did say that they have no plans to increase the price of their hardware as Sony did with the PS4.
