More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

Lord of Hatred Review: Diablo 4 Finally Finds Its Final Form

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

    Get those RTX 5090s ready.

Nvidia announced that they have officially release RTX Remix today. This official release of Nvidia RTX remix should make it easier for modders and enthusiasts to make RTX conversions of their old favorite video games.

One such game that is getting an RTX treatment is Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 RTX was first announced back in 2023, with a small update trailer released in early 2024. Up until today it's been pretty quiet.

About .5% of the world's population was using Steam at the same time.

On a boring weekend where there were no major holidays or events to warrant it, Steam yet again set a new concurrent user record. On Sunday, March 2, 2025 Valve's digital storefront saw a concurrent user peak of over 40 million people logged in at one time.

According to Valve's official charts, the exact peak was 40,272,727. This does differ ever so slightly from what SteamDB reports as the peak, which...

  • Team Fortress 2 SDK Released; Old Source Multiplayer Games Updated with 64-bit Support

Total conversion mods based on TF2 are now possible.

Valve just released a massive update to their Source SDK today that adds in all of the Team Fortress 2 client and server code. This update means that mod creators can build entirely new mods for Team Fortress 2. These mods can be small changes to gameplay or they can be as large as total conversion mods.

Given that Team Fortress itself began as a total conversion mod for Quake, it seems fitting that Team Fortress 2...

This means that you can play these games while sitting next to someone in the same physical space. It's kind of like playing co-op games online but with the other person being right there. It's how us old folk played multiplayer and co-op...

Half-Life G-Man Voice Actor, Mike Shapiro, Wishes You a Happy New Year

    The clock is ticking.

Mike Shaprio is perhaps best known amongst readers of this site as the voice behind both G-Man and Barney Calhoun from the Half-Life franchise. Of course, he's had several other roles in his many years of acting, but strangely enough I feel like only mentioning his connection to Half-Life is relevant for this news post. I don't know why that is.

Shapiro took to social media this evening to wish that all of his fans have... Well actually, it wasn't...

Valve Just Released the First New Team Fortress 2 Comic in 7 Years

It's a long read but it's worth it...

Valve began making comics for Team Fortress 2 way back in 2009. They began as a series dedicated to providing lore and teases for major new updates that were coming out for the class-based competitive multiplayer shooter.

In 2013, Valve eventually kicked off a new series of Team Fortress comics that told an ongoing story of the eternal war between Red and Blu, the hunt for Australium, and just generally provided a ton of added in-universe...

The Steam Winter Sale Went Live and Immediately Cripples Steam

You can save big, if you can load Steam.

The annual Steam Winter Sale went live a short time ago and, as is tradition, numerous parts of Steam are broken from the server loads. It might be wise to wait a little while before trying to hop onto Steam to browse through all the sale items and make whatever purchases you want to.

Steam is Giving Players More Control Over When Updates are Downloaded

Stick to the schedule or don't.

A while back, Valve pushed out an update for Steam that made it so game updates wouldn't always download the moment they were pushed live. Instead, they would automatically download on a "schedule" that presumably took into account how often you played the game and when the last time was that you played the game that was just updated. I believe they rolled this whole scheduled download update at some point in the early days of the Covid lockdown...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
