Unity Changes Terms Once More, Commits to 'Being an Open Platform'

Unity has had a real interesting seven days. Last week, SpatialOS from developer Improbable was apparently barred from being used within Unity development. SpatialOS is a robust tool that many Unity developers use to add multiplayer to their games. For a time, Unity's new Terms, which went live in early December but were only clarified to Improbable last week, actually affected games that were already released. This led to some quick back and forths between Improbable and Unity through their respective sites. It all seemed to quiet down when Improbable and Epic Games formed a joint $25...

EA Cancels Yet Another Star Wars Game (Update)

A headline like "EA Cancels Another Star Wars Game" feels like they're a dime a dozen these days. I think EA may have cancelled as many Star Wars games as they have closed studios at this point. Here we are again and here EA is with another cancelled EA game on their hands. This time, the development studio has decided to cancel its open-world Star Wars game that EA Vancouver had been working on. Prior to EA Vancouver working on this title, it was in development from Visceral Games. Of course, EA shut down Visceral Games back in 2017. In fact, when Visceral was working on the game it wasn't an open-world title but rather a more linear action-adventure game that was being directed by...

Review: Last Year: The Nightmare (PC)

A solid asymmetrical survival-horror game that's light on content.

Asymmetrical multiplayer games have been going steady for the past few years now. Some of the biggest games in that particular genre include the long departed Evolve, the still ongoing Dead by Daylight, and even Friday the 13th if you're into that sort of thing. You can now add in Last Year: The Nightmare to the mix as it combines 5 versus 1 multiplayer with elements of survival-horror. As with those other titles, Last Year places one player in the shoes of a bloodthirsty murderer while the rest of the players play as one of five teenagers trying to survive and escape. What it delivers is a well-crafted gameplay experience that ultimately comes up short on content. Last Year: The Nightmare relies on a number of tried and true horror movie clich├ęs. The group of teenagers include the nerdy kid, the popular girl, a stereotypical jock, and m...

Jump Force Open Beta Begins January 18

Come January 18th, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 owners will get to try out Jump Force in what Bandai Namco is calling an "open beta weekend." Be it a true beta or a "demo" is besides the point because what really matters is that you will finally get to test drive the fighting game that we have been passing along news about now for months.

Here's how it's going to go down. First off, there will be four separate three-hour long sessions:

Secondly? Well, that's kind of it. Just make sure you download the demo and you can play during...

Bungie Ditches Activision, Acquires Rights to Destiny

Moving forward, all future Destiny titles will be self-published by Bungie. I guess even Activision had to tap out after the latest Destiny 2 puzzle, eh?

After eight years, Bungie and Activision are parting ways and with it so does Activision's control over the Destiny franchise. Bungie announced today that they are acquiring publishing rights to their popular shooter.

Mere moments ago, Bungie made the announcement on their website in an aptly named news entry called "Our Destiny."

Bungie continues on to say that they will...

  • The MP5 Finally Returns to Counter-Strike

The MP5 Finally Returns to Counter-Strike

Long ago, in a Counter-Strike far, far away there existed the MP5. Once Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released, the weapon was struck down by the MP7. Fear spread far and wide that we would never again see the return of the little SMG that could.

Worry not dear players, for the MP5 is indeed back in Counter-Strike and maybe better than ever? I don't really know, I haven't tried it out yet and even if I did, I haven't played Counter-Strike in years so it might actually be garbage but who the hell cares it's back, baby! Yeah!
Often imitated but never equaled, the iconic MP5 is perhaps the most

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition Announced

As usual, it pays to wait for some games. This time the wait paid off for those who held off on picking up Middle-earth: Shadow of War because a new Definitive Edition was announced today. As you may already figure, this release will include the base game plus all of the released DLC, updates, and improvements that have come to the game since its initial launch.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition is planned to be released on August 28 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Not only will you get all of that content, but you also get the game at a point after the failed loot box experiment and with a slightly less garbage post-game section.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition will feature the main game,

Valve Updates Dota Plus with Special Summer Update

Back in March, Valve announced and released Dota Plus, a subscription service that they called an "evolution of the Majors Battle Pass." It featured a bunch of perks not available to non-subscribers but things kind of fell quiet for a number of months.

Today, that silence was broken with today's update for Dota 2 that includes a special Summer update for Dota Plus subscribers.

  • Valve Looking into "Better" Steam Spy Alternative

Valve Looking into "Better" Steam Spy Alternative

In April of this year, Valve started to change up the privacy settings for all Steam users. By default, all Steam users had their game libraries set to private. As a side-effect of this move, this left services like Steam Spy having to close up shop as they could no longer provide accurate data for public consumption. Now, Valve says that they're personally working on an alternative to Steam Spy. Specifically, they're making "something better than Steam Spy." This information was shared by Valve's head of business development, Jan-Peter Ewert, in a presentation he gave at the Russian White Nights conference. Independent developer Michael Kuzmin asked if Valve pl...

Building a Better TGN Part 2 - Overview of New and Returning Features
    Shawn Zipay

Last week I kind of detailed the process of what it took to even get the site up and running following the upgrade to vBulletin 5.4.5 from 4.2.1. Today, I'll go over some of the new features for all of you members out there, plus some of the more forward facing changes made to the site. I'll try to make this short and a bit more concise than last week's entry. Custom StyleThe most obvious thing you will notice when visiting the site is the current site design. I worked for a long time customizing a site design from one of the default vBulletin designs. Customizations include, but are not limited to:...

Building a Better TGN Part 1 - Banks and Technical Issues
    Shawn Zipay
As you have probably noticed by now, Total Gaming Network is looking a little bit different than what it was only about a month ago. We are now on the latest version of vBulletin, which just happens to be 5.4.5. We are also on a far more up-to-date version of PHP. We are also on some better server hardware than we were previously. The Boring Technical StuffThis particular version of vBulletin (5.4.5) came out roughly a month ago. We were previously on vBulletin 4.2.1, a release that initially came out in mid-2013. This equates to roughly 5-6 yea...
