Respawn Apologizes to Ass-hat Gamers for 'Ass-hat' Remarks

Statement issued from Respawn's Vince Zampella.

Respawn's CEO Vince Zampella issued a bit of an apology today after members of the Apex Legends development team called a bunch of toxic ass-hat gamers, well... they called them ass-hats. Donning their biggest surprised Pikachu face possible, these Gamers™ got extra angry when they realized they couldn't just keep dishing it out and not expect some form of retaliation in return. Some continued to throw tantrums, others called for boycots, while still others did their best "I studied the blade" impersonation.

Even...

Sony Bought Insomniac Games Today

Get ready for more Spider-Man.

Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has officially purchased Insomniac Games today. You're probably surprised to hear that the studio that developed last year's PlayStation 4 exclusive Spider-Man wasn't already owned by Sony prior to this week.

Insomniac Games was first started in 1994 and remained an independent game developer for this 25 year span of time. They created Spyro the Dragon, the Ratchet & Clank games, along with the Resistance franchise. All of these franchises were PlayStation exclusives, at least initially. Every so...

Rust is Killing Linux Support; Devs Offer Refunds

Rust became a "cheater's sanctuary" on Linux.

On August 9, Rust developer Garry Newman wrote a blog talking about potential plans for the long neglected Linux client for their open-world survival game. In the blog, Newman talks about how he and the team could have done more to support the client, even if he says their support "might have been above average."

He goes on to say that the Linux version had "become more popular with the cheating community." However, even with performance and anti-cheat improvements coming soon to the Windows...

Halo Infinite Creative Director Leaves 343 Industries

Tim Longo says farewell to 343.

The creative director for Halo Infinite, Tim Longo, is no longer employed at 343 Industries. His departure comes just a few weeks after he had moved to a different role within the company a few weeks back. The details surrounding his move to that "new role" are quite scarce.

His departure from 343 also comes at a time where Halo Infinite is very deep in development. The game isn't slated to be released until late 2020, but it has been in development at the Microsoft owned studio for around four years at present. Halo Infinite's...

An update was released tonight for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. Today's update includes a number of gameplay altering changes. First off, the AUG has been returned to its original price of $3,300. Secondly, Valve has changed the M4A1-S to hold 25 bullets in the magazine with 75 in reserve. Finally, the last "major" change in tonight's update is the fact that Valve has changed the amount given for round loss bonuses.

The update also includes a number of changes to both Canals and Vertigo.

As always, the full list of changes can be found below. Valve also...

  • Valve Decides 'Rape Day' Maybe Isn't a Good Game for Steam

Valve Decides 'Rape Day' Maybe Isn't a Good Game for Steam

It took some time, but Valve has finally decided that a visual novel "game" about raping women during a zombie apocalypse maybe isn't a good fit for Steam.

The game is (was?) called Rape Day and the premise is pretty much what I said in the line above. The game glorified verbally harassing women, killing them, and raping them throughout the story. The game was under review from Valve and, after multiple articles went up about the game, did Valve see fit to pull its existence from Steam.

To be clear, Rape Day was never up for sale on Steam. It had a Steam...

  • Steam Lunar Sale 2019 is Live and Offering a Bonus $5 Discount on Purchases of $30 or More

Valve just announced that their Steam Lunar New Year Sale has begun once more for 2019. This sale is in honor of the Year of the Pig and runs from now until February 11, 2019.

As part of the normal discounts on games, consumers will also get a bonus $5 (or equivalent currency) discount on "qualifying purchases over $30 (limited to one cart purchase per account)." This bonus $5 discount apparently only applies to the first purchase of $30 or more that you make during the sale period.

In addition, you can get a few different rewards during this sale. Buying...

  • Steam's Updated DLC Browsing Experience is Kind of Bad

Steam's Updated DLC Browsing Experience is Kind of Bad

Before this evening, if you wanted to get some DLC for a game that you owned on Steam, it was either shown through a simple dropdown menu on the game's page or as a condensed list on its own page. Today, Valve did away with both of those options and replaced them with a more spread out solution.

These changes are talked about in a new but brief update on the Steam Blog.

Now, all of the DLC is listed on a separate page when you click to view more. If a game has a lot of DLC, then it's spread across multiple pages. The page consists of a top banner area,...

  • Reminder: Steam to Ditch Windows XP Support on January 1, 2019

Reminder: Steam to Ditch Windows XP Support on January 1, 2019

In case you forgot, or were simply unaware, Valve will drop Steam support for Windows XP machines beginning January 1, 2019. This more than likely doesn't really impact you unless you are one of the 0.11% that are still using Windows XP as of the November 2018 hardware survey. Of course, Microsoft ended support for XP back in 2014, meaning it has already seen four years without security patches.

Here is what Valve announced earlier this year about their Windows XP support ending.

New year, new you, right? Maybe that should also apply to your operating...

  • Counter-Strike is Now Free-to-Play, Adds Battle Royale Mode

Counter-Strike is Now Free-to-Play, Adds Battle Royale Mode

Valve just rolled out one of the biggest updates for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. It may not be the largest in terms of file size, but in terms of scope? Yeah, it's pretty big for a game like Counter-Strike. "What could it possibly be," you wonder?

    It's battle royale.

Of course it's battle royale. This mode has been rumored for a while and now it's finally here. The new mode is called "Danger Zone" and along with this new mode comes some additional surprising news. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is now a free-to-play game. In addition, everyone that owned the game before today's move to being a F2P title have been granted Prime Status from Valve. Given that Prime Status was being used as a tool to play in an environment relatively free from cheaters and smurfs, your gameplay experiences over the next few weeks may suck until VAC d...

Bethesda Issues Meager Compensation in Response to Nylon Bag Controversy

Yesterday, we brought you the story about how Bethesda pulled a bait-and-switch on consumers that purchased the $200 Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76. Today, we have a bit of an update on the story to share with you. Bethesda noticed that there were suddenly a lot of eyes on them after multiple media outlets picked up the story, and in response they decided to try to make things right.

Bethesda, by way of the official Fallout Twitter account, announced a bit of compensation late last night. While you may be stuck with a cheap nylon bag instead of the canvas bag you were promised, you at least get...

  • Fallout 76's $200 Edition Promised Canvas Bag is a Real Stinker

Fallout 76's $200 Edition Promised Canvas Bag is a Real Stinker

The $200 Power Armor Edition of Fallout 76 promised to include a "Canvas West Tek Duffel Bag" in addition to some other neat gear like a wearable Power Armor helmet, map, and more. The problem is that consumers that spent the $200 for this Power Armor Edition ended up getting little more than a trash bag instead of the fancy canvas one they were promised.

What fans actually received for their monetary show of support was a cheap nylon bag. This is, obviously, not the one that was advertised....
