Valve Finally Shows Off New Steam UI Overhaul

An update to the Steam user interface and library has been in the works at Valve for years now. Today, the company finally feels comfortable enough to show off their Steam UI overhaul and did just that during a presentation at GDC 2019. I'd like to first thank Game Informer and PC Gamer (and again) for a lot of the information and screenshots you'll see below.

First up, let's talk about the changes coming to how your Library will look and function with this new update. The Friends list is now integrated into a column on the right side. No idea if this is an optional...

The Outer Worlds, Remedy's Control, Detroit: Become Human, and More Announced as Epic Games Store Timed Exclusives

As part of today's GDC presentation, Epic Games announced a number of timed exclusives that are coming first to the Epic Games Store. Among these games are The Outer Worlds, Control from Remedy Entertainment, and even some PlayStation 4 exclusives like Detroit: Become Human from Quantic Dream.

Some of these titles, such as The Outer Worlds, will also appear on the Microsoft Store for Windows 10. I guess this just lends more confirmation that Epic is less about purchasing exclusives and more about simply paying companies to keep their games off of Steam. Consumers should not...

System Shock 3 GDC Teaser

As part of the Unity keynote at GDC 2019, a new teaser trailer for System Shock 3 was shown off. I suppose that also confirms that System Shock 3 is being built on Unity. I think that was already known prior to this? Perhaps not.

The game is currently in development from OtherSide Entertainment. A release date for the horror title is not yet known. ...

Nvidia Announces Real-time Ray Tracing for Older GTX Cards

Nvidia just announced today that they are bringing real-time ray tracing to their GTX lineup of cards. This support will begin with a driver update currently slated for some time in April.

Get ready to have your framerates destroyed. Think about it this way: Nvidia's RTX cards have special hardware that is dedicated to handling the load of real-time ray tracing. Even with this special hardware, enabling real-time ray tracing still destroys framerates on these new cards.

Now they're going to add support for it on to their older cards? It will certainly make your...

Epic Games Launcher Allegedly Scrapes Local Steam Data Prior to Granting Consent, Epic Responds

Earlier today, Reddit user PhoenixPoint and ResetEra member Madjoki found out that the Epic Games Launcher may be collecting your Steam history at startup. As part of their investigation, they found that at startup, the Epic Games Launcher searches your local computer for a Steam install. If it finds that Steam is installed, it then apparently proceeds to pull a list of files typically stored in your Steam Cloud. This data includes game saves for all users that have logged in to Steam on your computer.

Madjoki also found that it pulls a list of your Steam friends and their name history....

  • Valve Delays Artifact Beta

    Valve Delays Artifact Beta

Valve's beta for Artifact has been delayed until November 19. The beta was supposed to begin this month but that isn't happening. There is also concern that the game itself, which is still slated to begin on November 28, will also be pushed back due to the very late start on the beta.

PC Gamer seems to be the first outlet to notice this delay. They spotted a tweet by Wykrhm Reddy, a known tester for Valve, in which the November 19 date was prominently featured for the start of the beta.
This date was then confirmed by others who reported receiving emails announcing the November 19 release date for th...

Two New Maps Added to CS:GO in Latest Update

Tonight's update for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive includes the addition of two new community made maps. These maps, Biome and Sub-Zero, have been added to Casual matchmaking's Group Sigma tonight.

In addition, Austria has been made available in Competitive matchmaking and moved into Group Delta in Casual. Canals gets the bump out of Competitive. Shipped and Insertion have been removed from all official matchmaking.

A fairly significant change has also been made tonight that will change how all Competitive matches start out. The team that loses the pistol round will receive $1900 instead of the normal $1400. This is further explained in the changelog, found below. Other quality of life updates have also found their way into tonight's update.

  • Valve Making Great Strides to Combat Steam's Content Problem

Valve Making Great Strides to Combat Steam's Content Problem

Valve just updated their blog today with some information that I honestly wasn't expecting to see. A few months ago Valve's Erik Johnson put up a blog post that more or less said that they were going to be working on making things better in the Steam store and would work on removing games and developers that were being obvious trolls or those with illegal content in their games.

It sounded, at least to me, like they were again going to be super hands off and let the market curate itself. Well I'm eating a bit of crow this evening because Valve updated with some information about the changes they've been working on both forward facing to the Steam consumer and behind the scenes. This is one of those few times where I am happy...

  • Valve Released Parts of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for Free

Valve Released Parts of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for Free

If you ever wanted to play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive but you just didn't have the cash, you may be happy to hear that a feature stripped version of the game was just made available for free tonight.

Valve released Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Free Edition for those who don't mind just playing against bots or viewing matches through GOTV. I did hear that LAN play was possible with this release as well, so that's certainly a pretty big plus. However, if you wants things like actual online games, matchmaking, inventories, XP, ranks, and everything else, you'll have to pony up the $14.99 (USD). I'm assuming ...

  • The MP5 Finally Returns to Counter-Strike

The MP5 Finally Returns to Counter-Strike

Long ago, in a Counter-Strike far, far away there existed the MP5. Once Counter-Strike: Global Offensive was released, the weapon was struck down by the MP7. Fear spread far and wide that we would never again see the return of the little SMG that could.

Worry not dear players, for the MP5 is indeed back in Counter-Strike and maybe better than ever? I don't really know, I haven't tried it out yet and even if I did, I haven't played Counter-Strike in years so it might actually be garbage but who the hell cares it's back, baby! Yeah!
Often imitated but never equaled, the iconic MP5 is perhaps the most

  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition Announced

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition Announced

As usual, it pays to wait for some games. This time the wait paid off for those who held off on picking up Middle-earth: Shadow of War because a new Definitive Edition was announced today. As you may already figure, this release will include the base game plus all of the released DLC, updates, and improvements that have come to the game since its initial launch.

Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition is planned to be released on August 28 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Not only will you get all of that content, but you also get the game at a point after the failed loot box experiment and with a slightly less garbage post-game section.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition will feature the main game,
