More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

  • Steam Autumn Sale is Live

    Steam Autumn Sale is Live

The leaves are falling and so are these prices!

The annual Steam Autumn Sale is now live. Where? On Steam, of course. The annual seasonal sale is actually starting a couple of months earlier than normal. This is presumably being moved to give a bit more breathing room between this sale and the annual Steam Winter Sale, which typically kicks off around mid-December.

There are a lot of games with discounted prices during the sale. I am guessing there are at least like...

The Steam Autumn Sale begins this year on September 29th at 10 am PT. In addition to finding tons of titles on sale throughout the sale, Valve also still has the Steam...

Steam Third-Person Shooter Fest Next Week

I’m going to need those TPS reports… ASAP.

Valve passed along word that the Steam TPS Fest begins August 25 at 10 AM PT. For those not in the know, TPS stands for third-person shooter. So it's a Fest for all games that are in the third-person shooter genre.

    Oh...

Oh, damn it all. Valve had the same idea I did.

As part of their press release about this, Valve also made an Office Space reference, which I'm only now seeing as I write this up. Yeah,...

Purchasing items on Steam over the past month has been a bit hit or miss if you've tried to use PayPal. Valve has now shared a bit of information as to why PayPal has been a real pain in the ass to use through Steam recently.

According to Valve's support page, the "acquiring bank for payment transactions in certain currencies" had immediately terminated the processing of any transactions related to Steam. This began in early...

  • Valve Confirms Payment Processors Forced the Removal of Several Adult Games from Steam

Remember that sex and nudity are bad, but excessive violence is a-ok.

This week, GamingOnLinux reported on a policy change for Steam that is already seeing some big repercussions. Valve just added a new rule to the onboarding guide for game developers looking to add their games to Steam. This new rule basically says that some games cannot be published on Steam due to "rules and standards set forth by Steam's payment processors." In other words, financial institutions are once ag...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
