Nvidia announced that they have officially release RTX Remix today. This official release of Nvidia RTX remix should make it easier for modders and enthusiasts to make RTX conversions of their old favorite video games.
One such game that is getting an RTX treatment is Half-Life 2. Half-Life 2 RTX was first announced back in 2023, with a small update trailer released in early 2024. Up until today it's been pretty quiet.
With the release of RTX Remix, Nvidia also revealed new footage for Half-Life 2 RTX along with word that a demo for Half-Life 2 RTX will be out on March 18th. The demo will be available through Steam and will showcase some areas of Ravenholm and Nova Prospekt.
Sadly, the full release of Half-Life 2 RTX is still unknown.
Also, it's not at all stated anywhere what resolution Half-Life 2 was running at when that 27 fps framerate was captured in the video. It can be assumed that it's running at 4K resolution as that is the upload resolution of the video. And not to make any excuses as to why an RTX 5090 can't even hit 30 fps at 4K, but Half-Life 2 RTX does use all new assets that are much greater in detail than the base Half-Life 2. Not to mention it's using "full ray tracing", aka: path tracing, which is still extremely difficult to do in real time. This is a game that is built specifically with DLSS and frame generation in mind.
IGN does have about 30 minutes of gameplay footage for Half-Life 2 RTX, if you would like to take a look at what you can expect when the demo drops next week.
