Steam is off to a strong start in 2024.
Chart showing a new concurrent user record for Steam.

You would think that new concurrent user records might have been set during the big Steam Winter Sale, which ended just earlier this week. You would think that, but apparently you would be wrong. Instead, a new concurrent user record was set by Steam on a weekend in which there are no sales, no Steam Fests, or really anything else truly notable going on.

On the morning of January 7, 20224, Steam set a new concurrent user record. The new record now sits at 33,675,229 concurrent users online on Steam. This doesn't exactly smash their previous concurrent user highs, but it is still a new record nonetheless.

What is interesting about this one is the fact that it was almost one year ago to the date when Steam first surpassed 33 million concurrent users. On January 9, 2023, Steam saw a peak concurrent user count of of just a tad over 33 million people. Looking back at that news post made in 2023, I was just as surprised then as I am now as to why the record was set during a weekend when not very much was happening.

I look forward to the first week or two of 2025 when I make essentially the same news post again on a new concurrent user record for Steam. Stay tuned for that!
