  • Valve Launches New Steam Charts Page

Want to know what the most-played and top-selling games are on Steam?
    Steam Charts

Valve just launched a new feature for Steam that they're calling Steam Charts. This is not to be confused with the already existing third-party site, Steam Charts.

In a new Steam blog post, Valve details what Steam Charts is all about. In short, it's an updated version of the old "Stats" section on Steam. Now, the new Charts page will give you a better look at what the hottest games are on Steam. You get a look at what the top-selling games are based on total revenues, plus a look at what people are playing right then and there.

Valve says that the revenue calculation for this list includes all sources such as DLC and in-game transactions. This updated accounting for total revenues will be reflected on other parts of the site as well, such as the Top Sellers tab on the Steam homepage, genre pages, and tag pages.

Steam Charts will show real-time updates on top sellers and most played titles. You will also see how many weeks a game was on the charts, weekly change in rank, and more. A weekly top selling chart will show the top 100 best-selling games based on revenue earned starting and ending each week on Monday at 10AM (PT).

Valve has been keeping track of the weekly top selling games since it launched. This means you can go back through previous weeks already to see what was popular in the past. In fact, you can go back to the very beginning to see what the best-selling games were on Steam.

More New Releases Found More Success on Steam in 2019 Compared to 2018
      by Shawn Zipay
2019 was another big year for the PC platform.

Steam has been around for quite some time now. In fact, 2020 marks Steam's 17th anniversary come September. 17 years is a long time for anything. If you didn't know any better, you might be sitting there right now thinking that after all this time Steam could not be improved or iterated on in any capacity. At best, all that happened was that a bunch of new games were added and they called it a year. Right?

      That is where you...

Major Steam Client Update Leaves Beta
      by Shawn Zipay
Over a month of beta testing later, the update is ready for prime time.

In late April, Valve pushed out a beta update for the Steam client. This update was far more extensive than mere bug fixes or tiny tweaks here and there. This update has just left beta and is out for everyone using Steam.

First and foremost, Steam is now using a new and updated framework. A lot of this won't be visible to the end user, but it allows Valve to more easily share code between the desktop...

Valve Announces a New Steam Machine
      by Shawn Zipay
      They live!

Valve once had an idea for a small form factor gaming PC that would run SteamOS and offer PC gamers a console-like experience. The studio partnered with several vendors, each coming out with their own versions of the Steam Machine. They often featured different hardware configurations but so long as they included Valve's small list of requirements, they were given the Steam Machine branding.

The first batch of Steam Machines came out in late 2015 and cost anywhere...
