Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).
Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.
Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

What's this? Another poll for December?
The Game Awards for 2022 have now come and gone. We had some winners announced and some other things happened. Now that it's all said and done, let's find out what you thought about this year's show, assuming you watched it.
As far as awards shows go, this certainly was one of the awards show of all time.
It was a night like none other. A night that opened with Steam user Milf Hunter winning a free Steam Deck from Valve. It was a night with an acceptance speech that went on for over eight minutes while a haggard looking Al Pacino stood by. It was a night that included a weird joke about murder statistics. It was also a night that ended with someone with possible ties to right-wing media saying something on mi...
It was a night of winners and losers. After all, it was an awards show at the end of the day.
The annual showing of The Game Awards aired last night and it sure was something else. Sadly, this isn't the news post you were looking for if you wanted to get the details on new game reveals, Milf Hunter, and an InfoWars kid. No, this is a news post talking only about last night's big winners!
God of War: Ragnarök took home several wins last night, including winning for the...
FTC Really Wants to Block Microsoft's Acquisition of Activision Blizzard
The FTC just filed a complaint to stop the acquisition.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) of the United States of America (USA) just filed a new complaint today that aims to block Microsoft's $69 billion (USD) acquisition of Activision Blizzard. This complaint is essentially a lawsuit, or a legal block, that will place at least a temporary stop to the acquisition being approved until such a point that this complaint is settled. This news comes in an email that the FTC sent to me this...

The latest developer update from DICE focuses on various aspects to the combat vehicles in Battlefield 2042. The changes, largely positive, look like they will be rolled out over the remainder of this season, that being Season 3.
The first new feature DICE talks about here is the addition of the Active Protection System to more vehicles. The Active Protection system...
Microsoft Offers 10-Year Commitment to Bring Call of Duty to Nintendo
This commitment will start with the Nintendo Switch.
As the day came to a close on December 6, Xbox head Phil Spencer took to Twitter to announce a "10-year commitment" to bring Call of Duty games to Nintendo platforms. This commitment would begin with bringing titles to the Nintendo Switch. This would, of course, depend on whether or not the Microsoft acquisition of Activision Blizzard is approved.
Curiously, Spencer also revealed that they are making an identical...
Cabined Accounts will create a safer and more inclusive place for younger gamers to play.
Epic Games just announced a new type of Epic account that will offer "a tailored experience that is safe and inclusive for younger players." They're called Cabined Accounts and they will let children play Fortnite without having to deal with the larger, and often not very "PG," community.
Epic says that players all around the world will see a one-time request for...
Days Gone Director Blames Poor Reception on 'Woke Reviewers'
Those damn reviewers just couldn't handle playing as a "gruff white biker looking at his date's ass."
I liked Days Gone, at least when I played through it again recently on PC. Did it have some issues? Oh, absolutely. The pacing was rather terrible throughout, but was especially poor in the opening few hours. The melee combat was also lacking. There were some other nitpicks here and there, but I generally had a good time with it. The acting was stellar in spite of some poor...
A free update brings more PvP to the Tarnished masses.
On December 7 (hey, that's tomorrow!), FromSoftware will release a new and free update for Elden Ring players. This one is probably only going to excite those who enjoy participating in PvP battles because that's literally all this new update is focusing on.
When this update drops, various Colosseums around The Lands Between will open their gates, doors, and what have you to invite players to engage in a variety of...

CD Projekt Red confirms what most of us already expected.
During an interview with Eurogamer, CD Projekt Red designer Philipp Weber shares some unfortunate news about the proposed multiplayer component for Cyberpunk 2077. In short, it's not happening anymore.
In 2013, CD Projekt Red said that Cyberpunk 2077 would include some form of multiplayer component. Later, that multiplayer component was going to simply become a separate standalone release. Then it was said that...

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?
For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
