XBOX: 1,600 Layoffs Today, Another 1,600 Over the Next Year, Four Studios Now Independent or Sold, Arkane in Limbo

More broadly, Microsoft is cutting 4,800 jobs.

Today, Microsoft is laying off 2.1% of its workforce. This equates to 4,800 people that are being let go. The company's XBOX division is cutting about 20% of its entire workforce. All of this is being done in an effort to cut costs due to rising prices and expenses brought about by artificial intelligence (AI).

As a quick reminder: Microsoft plans to spend $190 billion on AI in 2026. In 2025, the company spent $80 billion...

PlayStation is Killing Physical Game Discs

Digital only after January 2028.

Starting January 2028, Sony will no longer produce physical discs for new PlayStation game releases. All games released in January 2028 and after will be available only through digital stores such as the PlayStation Store.

Sony attempts to justify this move by claiming it's a "natural direction" in order to "adapt to consumer trends as the general preference for digital media significantly outpaces physical discs."...

Bungie is calling it quits on Destiny 2. The Sony owned Marathon developer announced the final live-service content update for Destiny 2. Today's announcement was a long time coming and one that most fans saw the writing on the wall for months ago.

Lord of Hatred Review: Diablo 4 Finally Finds Its Final Form

This is Diablo 4 at its best. I mean it this time. For real.

Returning to the world of Sanctuary for this latest chapter feels like a true homecoming for those of us who have spent hundreds of hours traversing its dark and unforgiving landscapes since the base game launched back in 2023. The release of the Lord of Hatred expansion marks a significant step forward in the narrative that was originally set in motion during the initial campaign and furthered by the events of the Vesse...

  • Dead Space 2 Remake Reportedly Cancelled (Update: EA Denies it was Ever in Development)

We live in a cruel world.

Update 2: Bloomberg's Jason Schreier chimes in with his own report. Schreier claims that the Dead Space franchise is "on ice once again." He says that EA Motive had "explored ideas for a new entry in early 2023, but none of those ideas were greenlit."

Of those "new entry" ideas, the biggest hope was for an entirely new game, not a remake of Dead Space 2. This seems to suggest that Grubb heard word of a "new...

Bungie Might be Working on Destiny 3

More Destiny is coming, one way or another.

A new report from Forbes says that Bungie is likely developing Destiny 3. The article, penned by Paul Tassi, is based off of a throwaway Reddit account and may not exactly be the most reliable of sources. Still, that throwaway account did reveal the Prismatic subclass months before Bungie announced it themselves yesterday.

That original message from February says that Bungie "is working on a system called prism that will...

Battlefield 2042 Development Comes to an End

Once Season 7 is done, that'll be it for 2042.

DICE and EA are ready to bring Battlefield 2042 development to an end. Once Season 7 concludes, that will be it. There will be no more Seasons and no more new content. Seven seasons really isn't too bad considering the game was initially only supposed to have four seasons of post-launch content.

Season 7, which launched a month back, will be the end. Like, for real this time. The start of Season 7 already added a new map,...

New Update Reduces Forza Motorsport Install Size by 29GB

This is a massive sized reduction.

Through what I can only assume is magic, the latest update for Forza Motorsport reduces the install size by up to 29GB. Specifically, the release of Update 7 reduces the total file size by 25GB on Xbox Series X|S and by 29GB on PC. This is a size reduction on about 15-20% depending on which platform you play on.

Developer Turn 10 says that due to the nature of this new optimization, today's Update 7 will be "slightly larger"...

  • How Many Games Did You Complete in 2025?
    by Shawn Zipay
Make up your own definition of "complete."

Was 2025 a big year for game completions for you, or were you more of a "stick to one never-ending, live-service game for the entire year" sort of player?

For this, you can take whatever definition you want as a game "completion." Beat the main story? Earned 100% of the game's achievements? Or simply played enough that you're satisfied with what you accomplished and have no plans to return any time...
