Following the conclusion of this past weekend's Battlefield 6 open beta, the mad lads at Electronic Arts and Battlefield Studios released a massive surprise update for Battlefield 2042. This update includes new weapons, planes, a free 60-tier Battlepass, unlocks for Battlefield 6, and the return of Iwo Jima albeit reimagined.
Battlefield 6 Unlocks
The highlight feature for this update is the new Road to Battlefield 6 event. This event includes the free 60-tier Battlepass and runs from August 18 to October 7. The pass includes a collection of cosmetics that celebrate the different Battlefield eras, including a player card featuring a familiar long neck from Battlefield 3. If you know, you know. This pass is a bit different from previous ones because you can earn content for Battlefield 6. There are 30 exclusive rewards for Battlefield 6 that are spread out across six tiers in this new battlepass. You'll be able to earn these rewards at the following battlepass tiers: 8, 19, 30, 40, 49, and 60.
A few examples of those unlockable Battlefield 6 cosmetics can be seen below.
Map
Also included in this update is the return of the Iwo Jima map. Iwo Jima debuted first in Battlefield 1942 and has popped up here and there throughout the rest of the Battlefield franchise. The version of Iwo Jima in Battlefield 2042 has been transformed a bit thanks to an active volcano on the map.Hardware
New hardware in this update include the KFS2000 assault rifle and the Lynx sniper rifle. The KFS2000 has a bullpup-like design and is said to be "highly accurate." The Lynx sniper rifle is immediately unlocked if you played the Battlefield 6 open beta. Those that did not play the beta will "have a chance to acquire the weapon later down the line." This sniper is a "semi-automatic anti-material rifle with a respectable rate of fire." It's supposedly really good at destroying the environment and dealing damage to vehicles.Pilots will be happy to hear that the A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot are both now included in Battlefield 2042.
Event
From September 2nd through the 30th, there will be a "Best of Portal" themed event going on. This event will feature a new game mode experience every 48 hours.Battlefield Friends
Finally, the Battlefield Global Community Team has been working on a "Community Art Series" for playercards. As part of update 9.2 for Battlefield 2042, the first of the series is ready and it is none other than a tribute to Battlefield Friends.
We thank NeebsGaming for the creation of Battlefield Friends and for providing the community and development teams with a lot of fun moments and special memories. Those of you following Battlefield Friends for a while may recognise some of these reimagined scenes from actual episodes of the series.
Additional images for this update can be found below along with the changelog for update 9.2, Road to Battlefield 6.

A10 Warthog and SU-25TM Frogfoot Attack Jets:
- New look!
- Fresh audio for some of the weapons.
- Overall increase to maneuverability of the planes especially the elevators.
- Moved the old Air to Ground Missile camera from behind the plane to under the wing for better visibility
- Moved the cockpit cameras for a wider view when inside.
- Added a new secondary weapon with explosive rounds for soft targets.
- Various adjustments to the primary cannon to fit the roster of 2042.

- Various changes to rockpods to fit the roster of 2042.
- Missile countermeasure now has a cooldown of 18 seconds, other jets retain their 12 seconds flare cooldown.
- We have added an emergency, secondary countermeasure similar to what the XFAD-4 Draugr uses for these vehicles as they are a big and slower target in the battlefield. This is meant to be used rarely to save the pilot, so expect long cooldowns and short life time. Players will have the option to choose this over repair.
- Belt speed has been reworked to function similarly to the IFVs we have released recently, it applies on all weapons.
- Added a new ability to enhance maneuverability of the airplane, choosing this will increase nearly all mobility factors; however, players will spawn with fewer ammo on specific weapons.
- Added a new ability that will increase the damage output on all weapons with cost of your maneuverability
