  • Battlefield 6 is Getting a Top Gun Crossover in Season 4

I feel the need, the need for speed.
Top Gun collaboration showing characters and content from Top Gun in Battlefield 6.

Battlefield Studios announced a new partnership with Paramount Games Studio on a special collaboration that brings Top Gun to Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC. This collaboration includes the addition of the F-18/Super Hornet and the F-14 Tomcat and is expected to arrive as a part of Battlefield 6 Season 4.

The collaboration will include some "fan-favorite characters from Top Gun," though perhaps without the biggest fan favorite character from the series. The characters include: Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller), Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd (Lewis Pullman), and Adm. Solomon "Warlock" Bates (Charles Parnell). Each of these characters will be fully voiced by their original performers. There will be Top Gun-inspired character skins and cosmetics available in-game.

It wasn't made clear just how these characters will be integrated into the game.

Two new gameplay modes inspired by Top Gun will be added to Battlefield 6, at least for a limited time. First up is Carrier Strike. This new mode "pits naval, air, and ground forces against one another as teams seek to destroy the enemy aircraft carrier."

There will also be a new Gauntlet mission for Battlefield RESEC added. This mission is a jets-only combat mission set on a reworked version of Tsuru Reef.

“Jets. Adrenaline. The drive to be the best. Battlefield’s unmatched sense of scale is the perfect way to bring Top Gun’s iconic and cinematic aerial combat to life,” says Ryan McArthur, Executive Producer. “We can’t wait for our players to experience the update when it hits on August 18 but our collaboration is also just a piece of Battlefield 6’s biggest season yet.”
Battlefield 6's fourth season, Naval Warfare, begins on July 21 with the first phase of the seasonal content. That phase focuses on the Pacific Front and introduces the game's biggest map yet, Tsuru Reef. The second phase will focus on this Top Gun content and will debut on August 18 alongside the return of Wake Island. The final phase of season 4, Tidal Strike, is out on September 15 and will include a collection event that offers rewards for those who complete naval-based contracts and challenges.

Battlefield Studios also shared a new Naval Warfare deep dive video. So, if you are super eager to see gameplay footage of the new content and changes, you need only look below.

Imagine if they called it the Top Gun: Maverick DLC? That'd be hilarious. Mav is here in spirit because his fee is so freaking high! Physically he's at the FIFA World Cup, but he's definitely here in spirit!

Also it's interesting that they didn't do a time paradox and bring in another pilot from the original Top Gun, since I'm guessing there were options to obtain a license to use that actor's voice acting and past likeness. I thought EA/DICE would've considered it, like the film industry has. Personally? I'm glad they didn't, because (and now you know who I'm talking about) I am against the technology involved. Although I'm not against the actor and I appreciate his work.
