RGG Studio shared a new trailer for Stranger Than Heaven during the Summer Game Fest event. The trailer showed off the cast and some characters we knew about previously but then it threw a bit of a curveball near the end. Emerging from the shadows was none other than Tupac Shakur, a man who has been dead for 30 years.
Sure, it's not clear yet just how big of a role this virtual Tupac will have in Stranger Than Heaven but it's still incredibly fucking weird and honestly super gross that he's in the game at all. It's not clear if someone else will be voicing Tupac or if they're going to use some sort of archival audio for any spoken lines. He may even be completely mute.
The reaction to Tupac's appearance certainly made more than a few waves on social media.
After the surprise reveal, another one of Stranger Than Heaven's notable cast members, Snoop Dogg, joined the stage to talk briefly about the game and Tupac's inclusion.
The Tupac estate and my son and myself, we work very closely together, so it just made sense to put him in this game. His likeness and his spirit still lives on, and I just feel like it was so connected to what we're doing.
Tupac is actually the second person to be added to Stranger Than Heaven's roster despite being deceased. Japanese actor Bunta Sugawara will have his likeness used in Stranger Than Heaven despite Sugawara having passed away in 2014. In the game, the character who looks like Sugawara will be voiced by actor Takashi Ukaji. In the case of Sugawara, consent to use his likeness was formally granted from his family.
