  • Resident Evil: Code Veronica Remake Revealed

Capcom, you better keep this iconic scene in this remake.
Claire Redfield on the left, apparently drenched in sweat. On the right over a bright red background is the title, Resident Evil Veronica.

Capcom officially announced Resident Evil Veronica during Summer Game Fest. No, that is not a typo. Capcom has dropped the word "Code" from Resident Evil: Code Veronica for this remake of the Claire Redfield focused survival horror game.

Resident Evil Veronica was given a vague 2027 release window during Summer Game Fest. This one is in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. Capcom kept the reveal somewhat vague and mysterious, so it's impossible to say yet just how much this remake will deviate from the original game. That original game certainly had some interesting story beats that may need to be smoothed over a bit for the remake.

Let's just hope that Capcom doesn't give this one the Resident Evil 3 treatment by cutting out huge parts of the original game, including entire locations.

The original Resident Evil Code Veronica was called Resident Evil Code: Veronica and it was a Dreamcast exclusive when it released in 2000. In 2001, Capcom released the game, renaming to Resident Evil Code: Veronica X, on PlayStation 2. It has since been re-released and ported to several other platforms over the years, with the latest being for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2011. Official emulated releases followed on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2017 and 2019 respectively.

Resident Evil Veronica will draw players into a desperate escape filled with horror and madness through the isolated, zombie-filled Rockfort Island. Developed on Capcom’s proprietary RE ENGINE, the game will introduce modernized gameplay with a chilling level of realism designed to push survival horror to new heights.
