  • Mortal Shell 2 Open Beta Now Live

The rare surprise drop during Summer Game Fest.

The first three hours of Mortal Shell 2 can be played right now through the Mortal Shell 2 open beta. This beta went live on Steam during the Summer Game Fest, giving players their first hands-on for the upcoming dark fantasy action-RPG.

Playstack and Cold Symmetry says that this beta gives everyone access to the opening prologue for the main game as well as an early section of the game's open world. You will start your Harbinger's journey and be able to claim your first Shells, "discover their disciples, and recover the lost Ova, all while exploring dungeons, facing mini-bosses, and confronting one truly formidable foe."

When the full game is out later this year, those that have played the open beta will be able to skip the prologue section in the full game. Additionally, those that play the open beta will unlock and claim the Flayed Harbinger, which is an exclusive cosmetic reward, when the full game releases.

    About Mortal Shell II

Mortal Shell II is a dark fantasy action RPG that’s been in development for more than three years, set to release in 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

This standalone sequel offers a handcrafted, interconnected open world. Expansive yet deliberately compact, it’s designed to respect the player's time. No familiarity with the first Mortal Shell game is required to play Mortal Shell II to its fullest.

In this single-player title, your journey will be marked by brutal, high-intensity combat, both melee and ranged, against relentless enemies that demand your full attention and mastery.
Like with the first title, in Mortal Shell II the dormant forms of forgotten warriors are scattered throughout the game’s crumbling world. Once discovered, each Shell can be awakened and possessed, unlocking their innate strengths and unique abilities. Evolve your own style of combat by harnessing these diverse powers, and unravel their secrets through the discovery of lost memories.

Mortal Shell II’s compact open world connects over winding footpaths guarded by the desperate and fanatical. Those who wander are rewarded with new story elements, Shells, powerful and strange weaponry, upgrades, curiosities, and more.
