Nvidia says that when DLSS 4.5 arrives, it will include their "2nd generation Super Resolution transformer model, Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, 6X Multi Frame Generation, and an enhanced Frame Generation model." The big feature, announced over the weekend during Computex, is the new DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction that will utilize that same 2nd generation transformer model.
According to Nvidia's announcement, this 2nd generation model for ray reconstruction will offer "superior image quality in ray-traced and path-traced games." When it arrives in August for over two dozen titles, Nvidia says that the new model will deliver "35% more compute capability, and processes 20% more parameters, while maintaining similar performance to the previous model."
In other words, there will be better image quality across supported titles but most people won't notice much in the way of any additional performance hit.
Some of the gaming examples shown off by Nvidia include Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Pragmata, and Alan Wake 2. In Indiana Jones, we see how the new model results in cleaner particle effects with next to no ghosting for falling snow particles. Pragmata's example showed how the new model can better handle image or object retention, in addition to vastly improving temporal stability (that terrible shadow/texture/lighting "swimming" effect you see on the environment with RT or PT enabled). The example for Alan Wake 2 was of a much clearer white noise on CRT monitors in one scene.
So far, there are already 27 titles confirmed to include the new DLSS 4.5 Ray Reconstruction model. There will probably be a bunch more to follow.
An overview video explaining the improvements and showing off the above examples in action can be found below. Also below are the list of games that are already confirmed to include this new Ray Reconstruction model when it releases later this year.
