I almost missed this one yesterday due to the fact that I wasn't sure if the news I was seeing was just more leaks and rumors or if it was the real deal. Well, it's the real deal. Ubisoft officially announced their upgraded version of Assassin's Creed Black Flag.
Ubisoft calls it Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced and it is a "faithful recreation" of Black Flag, though it has several changes and enhancements when compared to the original. Expected to release on July 9, 2026, Resynced is now running on the latest version of the Anvil Engine.
The biggest graphical changes include the addition of raytraced lighting with global illumination (RTGI) and reflections. It will still feature support for 60 FPS on consoles, though don't expect to have the highest graphical fidelity if you prioritize framerate. Ubisoft has also "fully modernized water rendering and simulation."
There are new missions and new scenes added. Kenway's Fleet has also been reworked so that captured ships now generate passive income through activities and trading. There are now ten additional shanties on top of the original ones.
Parkour and general movement has also been redone. Edward Kenway can now manually jump, side eject, and crouch anywhere to keep a low profile. There are new visceral takedowns and parrying mechanics in combat. Enhancements also come to the game's naval combat by way of new secondary weapons.
Not much has been said about trailing missions outside of the fact that there will be fewer instant fail states for them. At least that's the case for when trailing targets on land. Be far the original game's biggest sore spot were the abysmal stealth trailing missions on sea, so let's hope that those have been either completely reworked or done away with entirely.
Below will be the full reveal showcase as hosted by Matt Ryan, the voice of Edward Kenway. Included is an official game overview trailer that includes further details not seen in the world premiere trailer embedded above.
You can currently pre-purchase Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through a variety of storefronts such as Steam, Epic, and direct from Ubisoft. It will also be available for streaming through Nvidia GeForce Now and Blacknut.
