Cyberpunk 2077 is about to look a little better and run a little faster. On April 8, CD Projekt RED will release a free PlayStation 5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077 that will bring some enhancements that better utilize the better hardware.
According to a new PlayStation Blog entry, Cyberpunk 2077's Pro update will add in PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling tech. This will help bump the perceived resolution up to 4K.
CD Projekt Red says that they are also upgrading their ray tracing technology. Specifically, in the PS5 Pro update, they are implementing 8-way Bounding Volume Hierarchy (BVH8) support. This allows them to implement ray-traced lighting, shadows, and reflections. A "Ray Tracing Pro" option will enable all available ray tracing enhancements (reflections, ambient occlusion, skylight, shadows, and emissive lighting). This mode will target 40 FPS for variable refresh rate (VRR) displays or 30 frames per second on standard displays.
If you value performance over pretty visuals, you can make use of the Performance mode. On VRR displays, Cyberpunk 2077 will hit up to 90 FPS. A base Ray Tracing Mode will hit that "sweet spot between visuals and performance." This mode features some ray tracing improvements while still targeting 60 FPS.
We’re incredibly excited to bring this update to our players on PS5 Pro. The Cyberpunk 2077 community has been nothing short of incredible over the last five years, and we know many people have been keeping their fingers crossed for this update. Plus, with Cyberpunk 2077 currently available at no extra cost to PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members through the Games Catalog, we’re hoping to welcome some new legends into Night City too.
