Roughly two minutes of in-engine footage for the cancelled "Project Blackbird" from ZeniMax Online Studios has made its way online. The footage was shared by leaker eXtas1s and verified by another leaker, Tom Henderson, as the real deal.
This footage was used internally within ZeniMax to showcase the game's lighting within Unreal Engine 4. The footage can be seen below by way of a Streamable embed. This Project Blackbird was an in-development MMO from ZeniMax Online Studios. It was cancelled in July 2025 when Microsoft laid off over 9,000 employees. Several other projects, such as Perfect Dark and Everwild, were also cancelled at the same time. With Project Blackbird's cancellation, ZeniMax Online Studios' president Matt Firor parted ways with the company.
Project Blackbird was in development since about 2018 and was targeting a release in 2028. Just months before Microsoft cancelled the project, Project Blackbird had apparently "blown away" Xbox executives that had seen in-development footage of the title.
