The second film in the Mortal Kombat film reboot has been delayed. Mortal Kombat 2 from director Simon McQuoid and starring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, has been delayed until next summer.
The report comes from Deadline. According to their scoop, Mortal Kombat 2 will not hit theaters until May 15, 2025. The film was originally expected to be released on October 24, 2025.
The movie was pushed to May of next year because apparently that October release window is kind of already stacked. There's a couple of other movies coming out right around the same time, and according to Deadline films don't really do so well at the box office during Halloween weekend. New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. Pictures also seem keen on releasing Mortal Kombat 2 in May after they saw pretty good success this past summer with Final Destination: Bloodlines.
Deadline also notes that early screenings for Mortal Kombat 2 "have been strong." Alongside Karl Urban, the film also stars Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, and more.
