  • Dying Light: The Beast Devblog Part 1 - Torture and Suffering

See some of the hell Kyle Crane went through.
An angry looking man with several bruises and injuries wearing a blood stained and ripped shirt.

In the lead up to the release of Dying Light: The Beast, the team at Techland is kicking off a new video series that will explore various areas of the game. The first release is a short trailer that "explores Kyle Crane's suffering and the tortures he was subjected to by The Baron."

Today's new video is accompanied by a new developer blog, this one in text form. This new blog reveals how the team brought Kyle Crane back to life after a ten year hiatus. Specifically, the blog talks about some of the "creative and technical challenges behind this process - from gameplay to art and design - and shares plenty of behind-the-scenes details for fans to discover."

To bring this evolution to life, we needed the voice of Crane - and there was only one choice. Kyle could only be voiced by Roger Craig Smith. We were thrilled when Roger agreed to return to the role. His performance was essential in capturing Kyle’s transformation.

At the start of the game, his voice is heavy, strained, worn down by years of suffering. As the story progresses, it shifts, showing Kyle’s recovery, his growing strength, and eventually, the re-emergence of his true self. Roger delivered an incredible performance, full of nuance and emotion.
Dying Light: The Beast is expected to be released on September 19, 2025 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
