Prices for the PlayStation 5 hardware lineup will increase on August 21, 2025 in the United States. If you want to get a "cheap" PlayStation 5, you should go out literally right now to pick one up before the price increase takes effect.

Sony says that they "continue to navigate a challenging economic environment." This is due, in no small part, to the ever ongoing tariff wars going on between our dipshit leaders here in the States and the rest of the world. This is especially true with the ever looming threats of insane tariffs between the US and China. And with China being one of the major locations where PlayStation 5 hardware is manufactured, it seems obvious that a price increase was coming.


Sony says that the retail prices for PlayStation 5 accessories remains unchanged. They also say that they have "no other price changes to announce for additional markets."

PlayStation 5 hardware already saw price increases throughout its life. Prior to this increase in the States, prices increased in many non-US regions in August 2022. Prices on PS5 hardware also increased again in October 2023 with the release of the Slim redesign. The DualSense controller went up by $5 in August 2024.
