  • Elgato Launches New 4K 60 FPS Webcam with Lens Filter Support

The company hails the Facecam 4K as a "studio-grade" webcam.

Elgato just launched their new Facecam 4K, a "studio-grade webcam" that they say delivers true 4K60 video. They claim that there are "DSLR-style control" through their Camera Hub software, various cinematic effects, and features something that's actually quite unique for a typical webcam: Physical lens filters.

Facecam 4K utilizes a Prim Lens. This lens aims to maintain sharpness at up to 1.2 m and offer a 90-degree field of view. Facecam 4K utilizes a 1/1.8" Sony Starvis 2 sensor. When using a USB 3.0 connection, Facecam 4K delivers an image to your PC at "zero compression." This is when the capture is set to 4K but at only 30 FPS.

Their Camera Hub software allows users to customize things like ISO and shutter-speed. Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) controls are also available within the software. The camera also includes "advanced noise reduction and HDR" support. Those with Nvidia RTX GPUs can also make use of background blur.

The more unique feature of the Facecam 4K is its support for physical lens filters. This camera supports 49-mm lens filters. This allows you to apply effects like diffusion and starburst. For a cleaner image, you can get something like a circular polarizing (CPL) filter that will reduce the reflection from glasses. For this launch, Elgato is giving everyone a free CPL filter with Facecam 4K orders made through their store.
