  • Resident Evil 9 Officially Named Resident Evil Requiem, Takes Us Back to Raccoon City

And you play as the daughter of someone that was in Resident Evil Outbreak? Damn, what a pull.

Capcom officially announced Resident Evil 9 tonight during Summer Game Fest. It's officially called Resident Evil Requiem and it will be the ninth "and most immersive mainline entry yet."

Resident Evil Requiem will be released on February 27, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. As you can see in the reveal trailer, you play as Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Resident Evil Outbreak character, Alyssa Ashcroft. While you probably don't recall Alyssa from Outbreak, because I doubt many of you even played Outbreak, you may recall seeing an article written by her in Resident Evil 7.

There is still a ton of mystery behind Resident Evil Requiem. There will be plenty of additional reveals for this one in the months ahead.

In first person you don't have to do motion capture and lip sync for the main character, they can just be a floating camera unless it goes third person for cutscenes.
Modern games like to have bespoke first person animations like opening doors, pulling levers and cutscene interactions, but animating someone third person all the time is more of a burden, in that respect i think first person is more limited, that's why there are so many first person indie games because it cuts out a lot of work from the get go.
My favourite RE games are 4, 5 and 6, but i prefer action more than horror, i respect 7 i love the setting and the baker family but i've no desire to play it, 8 is weird i'm not into vampires and werewolves and i'm still not sold on Ethan as a character.
I haven't really looked at the trailer for Requiem, i know it's right above me i skipped through it and there's no gameplay, i'm beyond tired of reveal trailers that are just mood pieces or set the stage, i want to know what the game part of the game is.

I think there are lots of people who aren't as old and jaded as me and can still get excited about things lol.

Speaking specifically of RE games, I'm 40 and hyped as fuck about this new game. 🤷

It could be awesome i just don't know why yet, all we know is it has characters and they talk.
Edit: I think Google is watching me because it just recommended me a video from Timothy Cain about first vs third person, another advantage of first person i didn't think of is culling, because the camera view is always exactly the character's perspective you have more control over what you draw, where in third person the camera is more likely to be seeing around corners or over things.
