Alex Garland will both write and direct the live-action film adaptation of Elden Ring. This announcement comes direct from the independent entertainment company A24 and was first revealed by Deadline.
Garland's most recent film, Warfare, has apparently grossed over $32 million since its debut in April. He also direct other recent films like 2024's Civil War, 2022's Men, and 2014's Ex Machina. His writing credits are a bit more extensive and include 28 Days Later, the upcoming 28 Years Later, the 2013 game DmC: Devil May Cry, and 2012's Dredd.
Joining Garland will be producer Peter Rice. Other producers include Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, George R. R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis.
Elden Ring is a 2022 game that is really damn good, which has sold over 30 million copies (as of April 2025) for developer FromSoftware. A multiplayer spin-off title, Elden Ring Nightreign, will be released on May 30th.
