Microsoft just announced Gears of War: Reloaded today. This is a remaster of the original Gears of War from 2006. As part of today's announcement, Microsoft says that the game will launch on August 26, 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and yes, the PlayStation 5. The suggested retail price of this remaster is just $39.99, which is an absolute bargain considering the pricing on new and upcoming titles.

This remastered release will come with brand spankin' new visuals and audio. It will include cross-play and cross-progression. It will also feature all of the downloadable content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition as well.

Mike Crump, studio lead at The Coalition talked about this remaster today in a new announcement post.

As we approach the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we’re reflecting on what this franchise means. It’s about the stories we’ve told, the friendships we’ve built, and the unforgettable moments we’ve shared together. With Gears of War: Reloaded, we’re opening that door to more players than ever.
This remaster features the usual improvements we have come to expect from solid remaster efforts in 2025. According to today's announcement, players can expect:

    • 4K resolution
    • 60 FPS in Campaign
    • 120 FPS in Multiplayer
    • High Dynamic Range (HDR)
    • Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
    • 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
    • Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
    • 4K assets and remastered textures
    • Enhanced post-processing visual effects
    • Improved shadows and reflections
    • Super resolution with improved anti-aliasing
    • Zero loading screens during Campaign
While the going price will be $39.99, those Xbox owners that already own the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will get a free upgrade to Gears of War: Reloaded. Microsoft does note that you need to have purchased a digital copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition prior to 16:00 UTC on May 5, 2025 to be eligible for this free upgrade. Of course they announced it now, right after the sting of them being on the $80 games train, as people actually have less money due to paying more for everything. inflation only being applied to games prices when incomes haven't matched it, but house prices and rent vastly outpace it...give me a break, game industry apologists.
