HBO announced today that they have already renewed The Last of Us for a third season. The announcement comes just days before the premiere of Season 2 on Max.
The announcement of the third season was made through social media, with the simple caption of "It can't be for nothing. Season 3 is coming."
As reviews were coming in for the first season of the show, "multiple seasons" was a topic of discussion from some of the higher-ups at HBO. Given the amount of story and content covered in The Last of Us Part 2, seeing that second game spread out across two or more seasons makes a lot of sense.
Based on reviews for Season 2 of The Last of Us, this second season is looking to be another banger. Current reviews at Rotten Tomatoes are sitting at a 92% "Fresh" rating. To compare, Season 1 is currently sitting at a 96% on Rotten Tomatoes.
