  • Razer and Others Halt Laptop Sales as Trump Adds an Additional 84% Tariff on Chinese Imports

Don't worry, it will get worse.

Several laptop manufacturers, including Razer and Framework, are halting the sale of laptops to those living in the United States. This comes on the eve of even higher tariffs going live on goods imported from China.

The Trump administration is about to tack on another 84% in tariffs on all imports from China. This is on top of the already existing tariffs for Chinese goods. This means that starting on Wednesday, April 9 tariffs on goods imported from China will be a massive 104%.

Due to this senseless trade war, several companies have ceased the sale of various products to those living in the United States. We already know that Nintendo put a delay on Switch 2 pre-orders for the U.S. Now, companies such as Razer and Micron are also halting the sale of specific products to U.S. customers.

As pointed out by The Verge, Razer has pulled the pre-order page for their new Blade 16 laptop for those accessing the site from the United States. Specifically, the configurator page for pre-ordering the new Blade 16 laptop was available as of April 1, but now leads to a 404 error page. The product page for the Razer 16 now shows only a "Notify Me" button on the U.S. site. When accessing the same product page using a different region (such as Canada), the buy button is present.

The Razer 16 laptop isn't the only product on Razer's website like this. When viewing the laptop section on the Razer store, only laptop skins and a few laptop peripherals are available for U.S. consumers.

Likewise, Framework has also halted sales of their Laptop 13 on April 7. The company's Laptop 12 is supposed to go live for pre-orders on April 9, but it remains to be seen if that will actually happen for those in the United States.

Micron, an American company that produces memory and data storage for things like SSDs, has confirmed that there will be a "tariff-related surcharge" on some memory chips starting on April 9.

Don't worry, it will continue to get worse.

Earlier this week, we shared news that companies such as Razer and Framework have halted sales of various laptop models to those living in the United States. This was done in response to the, at the time, 104% in total tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. With that tariff total now at 145% on goods imported from China, several other laptop manufacturers have also halted new laptop shipments to the United States.
