Blizzard is apparently receiving several new pitches for a new Starcraft game from no fewer than four Korean development studios. This report comes to us from Asia Today, who says that companies NCSoft, Nexon, Netmarble, and Krafton are all competing to create a new game based on the StarCraft IP.
A few of the studios have reportedly traveled to Irvine, California to visit Blizzard in person to make their pitches. The studios want to both create a new StarCraft game as well as secure publishing rights to the game.
According to the reporting, NCSoft (Guild Wars, Lineage) is said to have pitched a StarCraft RPG. Whether or not it was an MMORPG that they pitched remains in question.
Nexon (The First Descendant) reportedly pitched a "unique" idea for the StarCraft IP. Beyond that vague description, not much is known about what that could be. Krafton (PUBG, inZOI) says that they wanted to make something StarCraft related that is "based on its own development capabilities."
Meanwhile, Netmarble (Game of Thrones: Kingsroad) would like to make a mobile game based on the StarCraft IP.
For their part, Blizzard has reportedly been interested in doing something related to the StarCraft IP. However, there just hasn't been anything related to StarCraft released by Blizzard since 2017's release of StarCraft: Remastered.
Late last year, it was revealed that Blizzard was trying for a third time at developing a StarCraft, open-world shooter game. The status of that shooter game is currently unknown.
Another spinoff game, StarCraft: Ghost, was announced in 2002. This was going to be a third-person action title, but was officially confirmed to be canceled in 2014. The second attempt at a StarCraft shooter was reportedly canceled in 2019. This second title, codename Ares, was aiming to be "like Battlefield" in its design.
