The first update for Assassin's Creed Shadows was pushed live today for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Mac. This title update 1.0.1 is of the hotfix variety and includes just a few bug fixes.
Before we get to that hotfix update changelog, Ubisoft also notes that Assassin's Creed Shadows has been played by over two million players in the two days since its release. This news was shared through Ubisoft's socials over the weekend. This two million player figure makes it the second biggest launch for an Assassin's Creed title, behind only Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Two million players is certainly a very impressive figure, but what about those sales figures? Ubisoft has remained fairly quiet on that front but not VGC.
According to "further data seen by VGC," Assassin's Creed Shadows "delivered the second-highest Day 1 sales revenue in the franchise's history." Again, it falls just behind the sales revenue generated by Assassin's Creed Valhalla.
Valhalla had the benefit of launching during the Thanksgiving season and during the pandemic, which helped to boost sales significantly. Shadows was initially set to release around Thanksgiving 2024, but a couple of delays pushed the release to March 2025. Valhalla also had the benefit of launching on older console hardware such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, which also helped to boost its sales figures compared to Shadows.
VGC continues on to share additional details about the sales figures for Shadows.
Shadows marked Ubisoft’s best-ever Day 1 launch on the PlayStation digital store, was the most wish-listed Ubisoft title of all time, and generated over 11 million hours watched on Twitch — the strongest start for any recent Ubisoft title, including Valhalla.
Significantly, PC represented around 27% of total “activations” – which likely encompasses full sales and subscription downloads via Ubisoft+ – with Steam playing “a significant role” in that performance.

For those players enjoying the game, today's hotfix update includes just three notable items in the changelog. While this may not be the case for everyone, I have yet to encounter any significant bugs in over 14 hours of gameplay. The extra months taken by Ubisoft to polish the title seems to have largely paid off. Of course, you can always keep an eye on the bug tracker to see a list of reported issues.
