Despite the many manufactured controversies surrounding Assassin's Creed Shadows, pre-orders for the game seem to be quite strong. Ubisoft says that pre-orders for the new Assassin's Creed set in Japan's Sengoku period are as strong as pre-orders were for Assassin's Creed Odyssey.
In their latest financial report, the company said that pre-orders "are tracking solidly." The comparison to Assassin's Creed Odyssey is a good sign for Ubisoft as Odyssey was the second-most successful Assassin's Creed title ever released.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot says that the company is "fully focused" on Assassin's Creed Shadows' upcoming release on March 20th.
Early previews have been positive, praising its narrative and immersive experience, with both characters playing critical roles in the game’s storyline, as well as the quality and complementarity of the gameplay provided by the dual protagonist approach.
I want to commend the incredible talent and dedication of the entire Assassin’s Creed’s team, who is working tirelessly to ensure that Shadows delivers on the promise of what is the franchise’s most ambitious entry yet.

Shadows is the first new mainline Assassin's Creed title since 2020's Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Shadows is also the first Ubisoft that marks a return to day one Steam releases for Ubisoft titles.
