Sony seems to be backing away ever so slightly from their hard requirement of needing a PlayStation Network account to play their first-party PC releases. Starting with tomorrow's release of Marvel's Spider-Man 2, Sony will make the use of a PSN account optional for a select number of titles. The first titles to drop the hard requirement for PSN are all single-player titles and it may be safe to assume that future single-player titles released on PC will also make the use of PSN optional.
As an incentive to continue signing in to a PSN account on these titles, Sony will offer various benefits to players. These benefits look to take on the form of a few bonus in-game unlocks and content. For instance, those that opt-in to using a PSN account for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 tomorrow will get early access to the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit.
Other titles that will drop the PSN requirement and make it an opt-in choice are God of War Ragnarök, The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
